PBAT MANDATE ELDERS FORUM MOURNS FASORANTI, CELEBRATES A CENTURY OF HONOUR AND SERVICE

Oct 21, 2026

The Chairman of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum in Ondo State, Chief Demola Ijabiyi, has mourned the death of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing him as a symbol of integrity, selfless service and democratic struggle.

Fasoranti died on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 100.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Forum, Ijabiyi described the late elder statesman’s death as a profound personal loss and the departure of a distinguished leader whose contributions to Ondo State, the Yoruba nation and Nigeria would remain indelible.

Recalling their longstanding political relationship, Ijabiyi said they both served under the administration of the late Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin in the old Ondo State.

He recalled that during the 1982/1983 re-election campaign, Fasoranti served as Commissioner for Finance and was responsible for coordinating the campaign, while he served as campaign manager.

According to him, Fasoranti was one of Ajasin’s closest associates and trusted allies, adding that their administration was renowned for integrity, transparency and commitment to public welfare.

Ijabiyi noted that the achievements of the Ajasin administration had continued to serve as a benchmark for successive governments in Ondo State.

He said working alongside Fasoranti gave him the opportunity to witness firsthand his discipline, sound judgement and dedication to public service.

“Pa Fasoranti understood that public resources were a sacred trust and that government existed to improve the lives of the people. These convictions guided his conduct throughout his public life,” he said.

The PBAT Mandate Elders Forum chairman said the late statesman demonstrated the same commitment to service as an educationist, public administrator and political leader, belonging to a generation whose politics was guided by principle, sacrifice and the common good.

He also highlighted Fasoranti’s involvement in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and the struggle against military rule, describing his participation as evidence of his courage and commitment to constitutional democracy.

Ijabiyi added that as a prominent leader of Afenifere, Fasoranti remained a consistent advocate of Yoruba unity, justice, equity, true federalism and national development.

He said the late statesman’s quiet disposition, principled leadership and consistency earned him respect across generations.

“At 100, Baba has completed a remarkable earthly journey. We mourn because we shall miss his presence, wisdom and fatherly counsel. We also give thanks to Almighty God for a long and purposeful life devoted to worthy causes,” Ijabiyi said.

He urged political leaders and younger generations to draw lessons from Fasoranti’s life, particularly his commitment to integrity, discipline and the welfare of the people.

According to him, the most fitting tribute to the deceased would be for public officeholders to uphold the values he represented and place service above personal interests.

The Forum extended its condolences to Fasoranti’s children, grandchildren, extended family, political associates, the leadership and members of Afenifere, as well as the government and people of Ondo State.

It also prayed for God’s comfort for the bereaved family and all those affected by the loss, noting that the late elder statesman had left behind an enduring legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
