**Chairman says Honour Challenges Company to Sustain Excellence, Deepen Indigenous Capacity
Green Energy International Limited (GEIL), operator of the Otakikpo Marginal Field in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been named Energy Company of the Decade at the Daily Times of Nigeria Centenary Awards.
The company is among 29 individuals, public office holders, corporate organisations and institutions selected for honours at the Times Heroes Awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Announcing the award recipients, Chairman of the Organising Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said the overwhelming public participation in the selection process reflected Nigerians’ commitment to celebrating excellence, integrity and transformational leadership.
According to him, the winners emerged through a nationwide public voting exercise that attracted thousands of verified votes from Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
Green Energy International received the Energy Company of the Decade Award in recognition of its significant contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector, particularly the successful delivery of the Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal.
The Daily Times noted that the facility, completed in record time, is the first indigenous onshore crude oil export terminal in Nigeria and the first such terminal to be built in the country in about five decades. The company was also recognised for executing strategic projects that have strengthened indigenous capacity and expanded the nation’s energy infrastructure.
Reacting to the honour, Chairman of Green Energy International Limited, Pastor (Prof.) Anthony Adegbulugbe, described the award as both an honour and a challenge to sustain the company’s momentum while striving for even greater achievements.
He said that since its commissioning by President Bola Tinubu in 2025, the Otakikpo Export Terminal has successfully exported more than two million barrels of crude oil for the Otakikpo Joint Venture and third-party oil companies.
According to Adegbulugbe, the growing number of producers seeking to export crude through the terminal, including operators of previously stranded oil fields, has validated the company’s bold investment decision.
He attributed the company’s achievements to hard work, commitment, teamwork and the dedication of its management and workforce.
Adegbulugbe reaffirmed the company’s commitment to deepening indigenous participation in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and to supporting efforts aimed at increasing the nation’s energy production capacity and global competitiveness.
