President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the Osun State governorship election, describing the victory as a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
The President, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
According to Tinubu, Adeleke’s victory “once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.”
He wished the governor success in his second term and urged him to use the opportunity of his re-election to unite the people of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations or choices during the election.
“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended the other contestants for what he described as the courage and discipline they displayed throughout the electoral process, saying their participation contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he said.
The President further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner of the election after securing 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Tinubu’s congratulatory message comes amid widespread reactions to the Osun election, which has been seen as another test of Nigeria’s democratic process and the ability of voters to determine the outcome of elections through the ballot.
