The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti State has dismissed as false reports alleging that it has collapsed its political structure in support of another candidate ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
The party described the reports as the handiwork of sycophants and self-serving politicians bent on undermining the legacy, integrity and electoral prospects of the SDP in the state.
Reacting on behalf of the party leadership, the Ondo State Chairman of the SDP, Mr Gbenga Akinbuli, reaffirmed that Ambassador Isaac Alade remains the party’s duly recognised governorship candidate for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, as acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr Akinbuli urged media organisations and members of the public to disregard the reports, describing them as false, misleading and calculated attempts to create confusion among voters and supporters of the party.
Also reacting, the Ekiti State Chairman of the SDP, Pastor Temitope Olofin, condemned what he described as the deliberate spread of falsehood and misinformation by individuals seeking to destabilise the party ahead of the election. He said those behind the reports were enemies of democratic values and political decency, accusing them of attempting to mislead the electorate and create unnecessary confusion within the political space.
Pastor Olofin maintained that the SDP remained united, focused and firmly behind the candidacy of Ambassador Isaac Alade. He urged party members, supporters and the general public to disregard the unfounded claims and remain committed to the party’s vision for Ekiti State.
The SDP leadership reiterated that there has been no agreement, alliance or arrangement to collapse its structure for any other candidate, insisting that Ambassador Alade remains the party’s sole and authentic flag bearer for the forthcoming governorship election.
