The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Owo, Rt. Rev. Dr Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi, has described the death of elder statesman and prominent Yoruba leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, as the end of a remarkable era of integrity, selfless service and principled leadership in Nigerian politics.
Fagbemi said although Fasoranti’s death at a ripe old age was painful, his life remained worthy of thanksgiving to God, considering his remarkable achievements and positive contributions to politics, education, religion and the socio-cultural development of the Yoruba race and Nigeria at large.
While mourning the departure of the centenarian, the bishop urged Nigerians to celebrate the enduring legacy of a man whose life exemplified decency, integrity, unity and commitment to the service of humanity.
He described Fasoranti as an incorruptible leader and a distinguished symbol of unity whose leadership of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, was characterised by honour, courage and an unwavering commitment to the interests of the people.
According to him, the elder statesman’s passing represents the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history, particularly the era of First Republic politicians whose public service was driven by patriotism, the emancipation of the masses and the pursuit of a just society.
Fagbemi noted that Fasoranti’s legacy would continue to inspire generations, particularly at a time when the country needs leaders who place public interest above personal gain.
The bishop also celebrated the deceased as a distinguished Anglican whose life, convictions and exemplary conduct brought hope, confidence and inspiration to many.
He said Fasoranti would be remembered for his outstanding leadership, dedication to humanity and the integrity and candour with which he served his community, the Yoruba race and Nigeria.
“Pa Fasoranti lived a fulfilled life and served humanity with distinction. Though we mourn his departure, we celebrate the values he upheld and the enduring legacy he has left behind,” the bishop said.
On behalf of himself, his wife, the clergy and the entire people of the Anglican Diocese of Owo, Fagbemi extended his heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family and the Yoruba race, praying that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He prayed that the soul of the departed elder statesman would rest in perfect peace and rise in glory.
