The People Democratic Party Chairman in Akoko North East, Hon. Giwa AbdulKareem and Director General of Hon. Afolami support group, Arc Tunde Obaode on Friday, received hundreds of members of other political parties who pledged to support the party in the Nov 16 governorship election in Ondo State.
The decampees included those who moved from All Progressive Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party and Labour Party (LP).
The decampees came from various wards in Ikare Akoko, under the banner of Hon. (Pst) Afolami Olabomi. Decampees from Iyometa ward I and II constituted the majority.
The defectors who are mainly from the All Progressive Congress, said they are tired of the current hardship caused by All Progressive Congress, APC maladministration.
They also underscored, the remarkable philanthropy of Hon Afolami Abdul Olabomi in Ikare Akoko and it’s environs.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Aseyori Coordinator in Akoko North East under the All Progressive Congress APC, Mr Ogun Wasiu said they decided to join the PDP because the party has better programmes and policies for the people than the ruling All Progressive Congress.
Ogun explained that the PDP gubernatorial candidate H.E Agboola Ajayi, has a better track record of performance during his tenure as the former Deputy governor of Ondo State. They believe H.E Agboola Ajayi has versed experience needed to bring massive developments to Ondo State.
He observed that the state under the leadership of Gov Ayeidatiwa, has not experienced appreciable development commensurate with the amount of funds that have accrued to the state from the federation account.
He therefore appealed to all who mean well for Ondo State to queue behind H.E ALFRED AGBOOLA AJAYI.
Receiving the decampees, Hon.Giwa Adbulkareem and Arc Tunde Obaode, the Director General of Hon. Afolami Support Group, commended the defectors for the right decision to pitch tent with the PDP in the state.
According to Akoko North East PDP Chairman, Hon. Giwa, the party’s candidate has been tried, tested and trusted as a former governor and a former House of Rep member where he showed capacity and competence to deliver development to the Ondo State.
He noted that the PDP will give them every privilege and rights that they deserve as members, advising them to be steadfast, committed to the success of the party.
“People are realizing everyday that the PDP represents the only credible alternative to the ruling APC in the State, a party that has failed in all ramifications.
The APC candidate has shown the lack of capacity for good governance. That’s why the people of Ondo state are defecting day-by-day to the PDP,” Hon. Giwa said.
Hon. Obaode explained that PDP has a credible candidate in Agboola with grassroots support that would occupy Alagbaka come November 16, 2024. He added that the defector will be adequately rewarded if they work for the success of the party in the coming election.
