Some market women who were kidnapped along the ever busy Akure- Owo road in Thursday have been rescued by the Ondo state Police command with the support of other security agencies.
This was made known by the Spokesman of the Ondo state police command Mr. Tee-Leo Ikoro while chatting with Peoples’ Information Network.
He said ten out of the kidnapped victims were rescued during a gun duel with the bandits while four of the kidnappers have been arrested.
Ikoro added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining victims.
SUNSHINETRUTH had reported that there were fears and anxiety in the ancient city of Isua the headquarters of Akoko south-east local government area of Ondo state when the reports of seven indigenes of the local government who were coming from government monthly meetings of Iyalaje, Iyalojas and women leaders in Akure were abducted by gunmen between Ogbese and Uso in the ever busy Akure owo road on Thursday.
Notable among those abducted by the gunmen was chief mrs Hellen Edward the Iyaloja of Isua Akoko who was the head of the delegation in a local government legislative bus drove by one Jimi a local government driver.
According to the driver who was released immediately to go home and inform the families of the abductors, they were coming from Akure when they ran into the army of 10 gunmen who were fulanis all of them carrying AK rifle and shooting sporadically to scare people. He said other 2 vehicles were equally robbed and the occupants kidnapped.
She said that they have contacted them demanding for 11million naira ransom.
