The Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun denied report of thugs invading the Assembly, noting that he invited members of the NURTW to a meeting at the assembly and they are not thugs.
Oleyelogun who said they were at the assembly for prayers, sued for peace and unity of purpose on the need to ensure violence ahead of the october 10 governorship election in the state.
The speaker stated this at a meeting with executive and members of the state branch of the national union of road transport workers, NURTW on the need to ensure peaceful and credible poll.
SUNSHINETRUTH had gathered yesterday that in an efforts to stop three lawmakers including the Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji from resuming at the assembly after an Akure High court last week nullified their suspension by the House.
However reacting, Oleyelogun also debunked rumours making the rounds that some thugs invaded the premises of the assembly complex to prevent the embattled lawmakers from resuming their legislative duties.
Oleyelogun who lauded the leadership of the union for its peaceful disposition to matters enjoined them to continue towing the line of peace as being witnessed in the state.
He assured the transport union of the lawmakers’ support while calling on its members to shun violence that could lead to social unrest.
The Speaker however also denied rumours that the six embattled lawmakers recently reinstated by the court were denied access to the assembly complex.
Addressing journalists after the meeting on the suspended Members of the House, the Speaker, Oleyelogun Bamidele David maintained that the case is still in court, adding that the leadership has a great respect for the rule of law and would not hesitate to act accordingly on the path of Justice.
Oleyelogun commended the leadership of the Drivers’ Union on their disposition to peace in their interaction with the public and urged them to continue in same manner in order to sustain the reigning peace in the state before, during and after the October 10 governoship election.
Responding, Ondo State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers Mr Jacob Adebo (popularly known as Idajo) who copiously quoted Bible verses to support his position alluded to the reigning peace during his leadership of the union.
Mr Adebo commended Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for his support for the union since he assumed leadership of the State.
The NURTW boss pledged to ensure that the existing peace in the State must not be truncated through any means before, during and after the upcoming election.
