Community Cites Reforms, Development Strides for its Support

The Igbo community in Ondo State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term, citing what it described as the achievements of the administration across key sectors of the economy.

The endorsement was made by representatives of the Igbo community from the 18 local government areas of the state at an event organised by the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) in Akure on Thursday.

The programme was sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Speaking at the event, the APC leader of the Igbo community in Ondo State, Hon. Arinze Okafor, said the endorsement was an expression of confidence in the Tinubu administration and its reform agenda.

Okafor said the administration had introduced reforms in infrastructure, education, agriculture, security and the economy, adding that continuity was necessary for the policies and projects to achieve their intended impact.

Also speaking, the GMT Igbo Coordinator, Comrade Obioma Michael, said he personally supported and campaigned for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, describing the President as a leader with a clear plan for Nigeria.

An Igbo community leader, High Chief Abazie Emmanuel, said the community’s decision was also influenced by what he identified as local government autonomy, reforms in the electricity sector, increased allocations to states and local governments, improved security measures and the student loan scheme.

He said the measures had demonstrated the administration’s commitment to addressing some of the country’s longstanding challenges.

The Director-General of GMT in Ondo State, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, described the endorsement as a demonstration that the Igbo community had recognised the achievements of the Tinubu administration.

Yusuf-Ogunleye commended Tunji-Ojo for sponsoring the programme and supporting other GMT initiatives in the state, including the Elosoloja Market Outreach and Jingi Asiwaju Medical Outreach.

He said the initiatives were part of efforts to deepen grassroots engagement and communicate the administration’s programmes and achievements to residents across the state.

The endorsement adds the Ondo State Igbo community to groups expressing support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
