Lafemiwa Bolutito Adedoyin has been named as the recipient of the 2021-2022 Women in STEM Scholarship awarded by the Government of Alberta, Canada.
The Women in STEM scholarship supports women pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields where their gender is underrepresented and who are working to advance gender equality in their chosen field.
Lafemiwa Bolutito Adedoyin was in the top 2% of the Bachelor’s degree graduating class of 2011 in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, FUTA.
Also, Bolutito Adedoyin completed her M. (Agric.) Tech. in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. (Mrs) O. V. Oyerinde and served as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, FUTA from 2013-2015.
Since she moved to Canada a few years ago, she has continued to follow her interests in forests by enrolling for a Master of Forestry at the Spatial Information Systems Laboratory in the Renewable Resource Department, Faculty of Agriculture and life sciences, University of Alberta, Canada.
Bolutito is currently a Graduate Research Assistant with Dr. Andreas Hamann as the Graduate Assistantship Supervisor.
Her research borders on understanding trade-offs between productivity and adaptation of White spruce (Picea glauca) to drought conditions as expected under future climate projections.
In addition to her academic program, she volunteers as a mentor for high school students at Living Word Academy Edmonton and at Rhema food bank, Edmonton, distributing pandemic relief food materials.
As a Teen coach, Bolutito offers regular career and educational counsel to teenagers and facilitating the development of life skills required to live a positive life.
