Residents of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have commended the organisers and sponsor of a free medical outreach in Igbokoda, describing the initiative as a timely intervention for people facing difficulties accessing healthcare.
The outreach, organised by the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) and held on Tuesday at Ilaje High School, Igbokoda, attracted more than 500 residents who benefited from free medical consultations and other healthcare services.
The programme was sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of GMT’s activities in support of the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Beneficiaries received medical consultations, eye examinations, blood pressure checks, prescription drugs, reading glasses and other services. Medical personnel also provided education on preventive healthcare and healthy living.
Speaking after receiving treatment, a beneficiary, Mrs Modupe Eretan, said the intervention came at a time when she could barely afford her medication.
“I am very grateful to the organisers of this programme for providing healthcare for us at this time. Words are not enough to express my appreciation,” she said.
Eretan, who said she had been experiencing chest discomfort, coughing and high blood pressure, added that she received medications and eyeglasses which she would use for reading.
Another beneficiary, Mr Oyesanmi Olusegun, said he attended the programme after hearing about it in his church because of persistent eyesight problems.
He said he was examined and given a pair of glasses, expressing appreciation to Tinubu, Tunji-Ojo and the medical personnel for the intervention.
The Oloja of Obiarenewo, Chief Adewale Omosuwane, also commended the initiative, saying it had provided relief, particularly for elderly residents who could not afford medical treatment.
“Our people are happy with this programme. If we continue to have this kind of programme, it will save a lot of people, especially the elderly ones,” he said.
Similarly, Mrs Olatuyi Adenike described the outreach as a significant intervention, noting that beneficiaries were able to access services that would otherwise have cost them substantial amounts at hospitals and clinics.
The GMT Director of Women Affairs, Chief Olamide Falana, said the initiative was designed to take healthcare services closer to people at the grassroots.
Falana urged beneficiaries to return to their communities and sensitise residents on the need to support President Tinubu and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
