The sixth day of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan featured intensive learning, physical training and talent development as participants deepened their knowledge of digital technology, renewable energy and healthy living.
The two-week BEMOREOYO2026 programme is designed to equip young girls with skills in technology, leadership, physical fitness and social awareness.
Activities on Day Six began with Taekwondo drills and general physical exercises aimed at improving the participants’ stamina, coordination and self-defence skills.
The girls thereafter observed fruit time and breakfast before proceeding to the ICT laboratory for a practical session facilitated by Matrix Lab Tech.
The session, led by Bodunrin Olalekan Caleb and Michael Oyediran, featured a review of previous lessons before the participants moved into practical applications of Microsoft Excel.
The girls were taught how to organise data, manage worksheets and prepare examination record charts, with emphasis on applications that could be useful in both academic and workplace environments.
The participants also received an introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint and were assessed on their understanding of the programme. They subsequently produced presentations that demonstrated their grasp of the lessons.
Later in the day, ASHDAM SOLAR Academy facilitated a session on “Introduction to Energy Management”, exposing the girls to sustainable energy practices and the importance of responsible energy consumption.
The facilitators also explained the basic principles of renewable energy generation and its relevance to national development.
The session included an interactive global-awareness exercise in which participants were asked to identify flags of different countries displayed on screen.
The girls’ ability to identify most of the flags correctly added an engaging dimension to the learning session.
The programme continued with talent development and recreational activities, including Taekwondo, music and dance. The activities were designed to promote confidence, teamwork, coordination and appreciation of cultural expression.
The organisers said the combination of classroom learning, practical technology sessions, physical exercise and creative activities remained central to the BEMORE initiative’s approach to developing well-rounded young women.
The smooth running of the day’s activities was supported by the camp’s media and medical teams, matrons and resource manager, Nonye Okafor, while the Chief Matron, Kelechi Igboegwu, provided leadership and welfare support.
The organisers also acknowledged the founder of the BEMORE initiative, Dr Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, a breast cancer survivor and former First Lady of Ondo State, for her continued commitment to the empowerment of girls.
With the two-week bootcamp still ongoing, participants are expected to continue with further academic, technological, leadership and skills-development activities in the coming days.
