The Diocese of Akure, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has praised the Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Akure Diocese, the Most Rev. Simeon Oluwole Borokini, for what it described as a distinguished 13-year episcopacy marked by transparency, probity, accountability and transformational leadership.
The commendation formed part of the communiqué issued at the end of the 2nd Session of the 15th Synod of the Diocese, held at the Cathedral Church of St. David’s, Ijomu, Akure, ahead of Borokini’s retirement from active church ministry.
The Synod described the Archbishop’s leadership as exemplary, saying he had piloted the affairs of the Diocese with integrity while recording remarkable achievements in evangelism, church expansion and infrastructure development.
It particularly applauded his prudent financial management, noting that all salaries of priests and other workers in the Diocese had been fully paid up to June 2026 before his retirement, describing the gesture as evidence of his commitment to workers’ welfare and accountable administration.
According to the communiqué, Borokini’s administration strengthened evangelism and missionary outreach, leading to the establishment of a church for the hearing impaired, the creation of new parishes and archdeaconries, and the eventual creation of the Missionary Diocese of Idanre from the Akure Diocese.
The Synod also highlighted several infrastructural projects executed during his episcopacy, including the establishment of a diocesan hospital, a sachet water factory, a modern Bishop’s Office complex and guest house facilities, among other developmental projects aimed at strengthening the Diocese.
While congratulating the retiring Archbishop on what it described as a successful and impactful ministry, the Synod prayed that God would grant him renewed strength, good health and fulfilment in retirement.
The Synod also considered the state of the nation, expressing concern over worsening economic hardship, insecurity and the rising cost of living. It urged the Federal Government to implement measures that would ease the suffering of Nigerians and restore economic stability.
The Church further called for stronger action to address insecurity across the country, while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for securing the release of teachers and pupils abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
On Ondo State, the Synod commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for ongoing development efforts but urged his administration to pay greater attention to healthcare, education, security and initiatives that would improve the state’s internally generated revenue.
The Synod, which had as its theme, “Exceeding Great Reward,” concluded by encouraging Christians to remain steadfast in God’s service, assuring them that their labour in the Lord would not be in vain.
