President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been commended for directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate a court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, a move described as a demonstration of commitment to constitutional democracy and electoral fairness.
In a statement, Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, said the President’s directive underscored the importance of ensuring that justice is not only done but is seen to be done, particularly ahead of an electoral contest.
Ajulo noted that the decision reflected restraint in the exercise of executive authority and reinforced public confidence in democratic institutions.
According to him, by placing the integrity of the democratic process above political considerations, President Tinubu has reaffirmed that the legitimacy of government is anchored on public trust and the fairness of state institutions.
He stressed that while strong institutions remain the foundation of democracy, effective leadership is equally essential in ensuring that such institutions exercise their powers within the bounds of the law and without undermining the sovereign will of the people.
Ajulo further described the directive as a reminder that constitutional governance, the rule of law and democratic legitimacy are complementary principles that must be upheld at all times.
He expressed hope that the development would further strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and reaffirm the nation’s commitment to justice, fairness and constitutional order.
