***VC Commends Aiyedatiwa for Financial Support and Commitment to Education
Academic activities have resumed fully at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, following the suspension of the industrial action by university unions.
A major focus of the resumption is the commencement of the second semester examinations, scheduled to begin on October 19.
The Registrar, Dr. Olubunmi Babalola, announced the development in a circular to students, urging them to resume and prepare for the examinations.
A visit to the university campus showed students returning to their halls of residence and classrooms, while academic and non-teaching staff were also on ground to attend to them.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, September 30, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tomola Obamuyi, expressed satisfaction with the return of normalcy to the institution.
Professor Obamuyi commended the Visitor to the university and Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for providing funds to address the financial needs of the institution, including over one billion naira special bailout funds used to offset salary arrears.
He also thanked the governor for supporting the implementation of agreements reached between the Federal Government and university unions, which facilitated the suspension of the industrial action.
The Vice Chancellor said the resolution of the labour disputes would enable the university to refocus on its core mandates of teaching, research and manpower development, while preparing students for the second semester examinations.
