Professor of Medical Microbiology and Public Health at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Festus Olajubu, is set to deliver the institution’s 54th Inaugural Lecture on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The lecture, titled “The Unwinnable War Against Antimicrobial Resistance: Nature to the Rescue,” will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall, beginning at 2:00 p.m., while guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
In a statement, the Chairman of Ceremonies and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, confirmed that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the lecture.
Prof. Olajubu began his academic journey in 1987, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye (now Olabisi Onabanjo University). He obtained a Master of Science degree in Medical Microbiology from the same institution in 2000, and later earned a PhD in Medical Microbiology and Public Health from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, in 2010.
He joined Adekunle Ajasin University in 2011 as a Lecturer I in the Department of Microbiology and rose through the ranks to attain the rank of Professor in 2020.
Within the university, Prof. Olajubu has served in several key capacities, including Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Acting Head of the Department of Microbiology, Sub-Dean, Faculty of Science, Chairman, Faculty of Science Quality Assurance Committee, Acting Director, Industrial Training Unit, and Acting Director of Research and Development.
An accomplished scholar, Prof. Olajubu has contributed to two published books and authored over 50 research articles. He has also presented papers at numerous local and international conferences in countries including Canada, France, Germany, India, Malaysia, and the United States.
He is a member of several professional bodies, notably the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Nigerian Society for Microbial Ecology (NSME), Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA), and the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID).
Prof. Olajubu is also a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (FWAPCMLS) and the Nigerian Society of Microbial Ecology, an International Federation of Biological Associations–Certified Professional (IFBA-CP), and an appointed mentor under the American Society for Microbiology Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF).
Beyond academia, he serves as the South-West Coordinator of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association, a reviewer for several local and international journals, and an external assessor to various Nigerian universities.
In recognition of his scholarly contributions, Prof. Olajubu has received several awards and grants, including the National Award of Excellence by NAMS (2019), TETFund Institution-Based Research Grant (2015), Europa Organization Africa Travel Scholarship (2016), Keystone Symposia Travel Grant (2017), and a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Travel Grant (2018).
