The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has congratulated elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday anniversary, describing him as an uncommon leader whose life reflects integrity, courage and selfless service to humanity.
In a statement signed by Victor A. Akinpelumi, Deputy Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Radio AAUA 90.3FM, Prof. Ige praised Fasoranti’s contributions to education, democracy and the development of the Yoruba nation, noting that his leadership qualities and commitment to justice have continued to inspire generations of Nigerians.
The Vice Chancellor recalled that Fasoranti served as the second Pro-Chancellor of the university between November 2001 and September 2003, adding that his tenure laid a solid foundation for academic excellence and prudent administration at the institution.
“Baba Fasoranti is a leader of leaders, a political sage and a bridge builder whose life has remained a reference point for honour, humility and courage,” Prof. Ige said.
According to him, the centenarian consistently upheld the ideals of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, particularly in the areas of good governance, education and social justice.
The Vice Chancellor further described Fasoranti as a fearless advocate of democracy and true federalism whose voice remained prominent during the years of military rule in Nigeria.
“At 100, Chief Fasoranti still stands as a rallying point for justice, democratic governance and the unity of the Yoruba race. His contributions to the educational advancement of Ondo State and Nigeria are immeasurable,” he added.
Prof. Ige prayed for continued good health, strength and divine wisdom for the elder statesman, expressing optimism that Nigeria would continue to benefit from his wealth of experience and fatherly counsel.
He stated that the management, staff and students of the university joined well-wishers across the country in celebrating Fasoranti’s life of sacrifice and commitment to building a better society.
