Ondo Govt Approves 101km Road Projects, New Hostel, Major Renovation

***Roads within Isinkan feature prominently among approved projects

Determined to accelerate infrastructural development across the state, the Ondo State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the construction and rehabilitation of 101.036 kilometres of roads, including key routes within the Isinkan axis of the state capital. 

The projects, covering both new constructions and rehabilitation works, were part of the major decisions taken at the Council’s meeting held on Monday in Akure.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, said the road projects were designed to ease vehicular movement, enhance commerce, and open up communities for development.

According to him, the Council approved 66.421 kilometres of new roads and 34.615 kilometres of rehabilitation and reconstruction works, bringing the total to 101.036 kilometres.

Among the approved projects is the reconstruction of Akure–Imafon Road; Danjuma–Bolajoko with a spur to Isikan, and the asphalt overlay of the Investment Junction–Shoprite Roundabout–Federal Secretariat axis, including spurs to the State Investment and Industrial Building (SIIB), Alagbaka. The entire stretch covers about 15.72 kilometres and serves major traffic corridors within the Isinkan area of Akure.

Other major road projects include the dual carriageway of College Road–Okoga Junction–Irewole Roundabout in Igbokoda (8.5 km)reconstruction of Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road (21.2 km); and construction/rehabilitation of Akure–Ijare Road with spur to Ikota Township Road (8.8 km).

Also approved were the Afunbiowo Estate Roads, Alpha 3D Estate Roads, and the asphalt overlay of failed sections leading to the Alpha 3D Estate, totalling 6.201 km.

In addition, the Council reviewed ongoing construction contracts, including the Onyeagbulem–Shagari/Irese Flyover project, the 8.135 km dual carriageway from A-Division through Oba Osupa–Oluwatuyi–Ijoka axis, and several internal road networks across Akure metropolis.

Beyond roads, the Aiyedatiwa administration also approved the construction of a 216-bed hostel at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, to provide improved accommodation for corps members.

Other building projects include the construction of a two-storey headquarters for the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission, and the renovation and upgrading of buildings belonging to several government ministries and agencies, including:

  • Ministry of Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene
  • Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development
  • Hospital Management Board (HMB)
  • Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM)
  • Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources
  • Ministry of Lands and Housing

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, announced the appointment of three new traditional rulers across the state:

  • Prince Emmanuel Adetutu Ifasole as the Akinuwa of Ipindo (Ondo West LGA)
  • Prince Bamikole Adeyefa as the Elemure of Emure-Ile (Owo LGA)
  • Prince Akintoye Felix Adeoye as the Oloke of Okeigbo (Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGA)

He also disclosed the constitution of a Warrant Chiefs Committee for the Olojoda Chieftaincy Stool in Olojoda community.

Speaking further, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the latest approvals underscore Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to ensuring that governance translates into tangible development across all sectors.

“This government is focused on projects that touch lives directly. Governor Aiyedatiwa is determined to deliver visible results through massive infrastructure renewal,” Ajanaku said, assuring that all approved projects will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and quality delivery.
