Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo state governor, on Thursday presented Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole.
Governor Akeredolu, who was represented by Otunba Dele Ologun, Commissioner for Youths and Sports, performed the presentation ceremony at the Osolo Palace, Isolo in Akure south local government area.
The governor warned traditional rulers in the state against extending their reigns beyond their domains.
“Government will not tolerate domineering tendency from any monarch,” he said, adding that the traditional rulers should eschew anything that could disrupt peace in the state.
The Osolo of Isolo is one of the 62 chieftaincy stools recently recognised by the state government under Part 1 of the Chiefs’ Law.
The event was part of the implementation of the decisions and recommendations of the Hon. Justice C.E.T. Ajama Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Chieftaincy Matters.
The Ajama Commission was inaugurated by the Olusegun Mimiko government in January 2015 to inquire into deserving cases of recognition, adjustment, upgrading and elevation of chieftaincy stools in the state.
The immediate past government, however, could not act on the report of the commission before its end in February, 2017.
The State Executive Council under the leadership of Governor Akeredolu in January, 2022 constituted a six-man committee to review the recommendations of the Ajama Commission.
The council received the report of the six-man committee in August and directed that its decisions and recommendations should be published in Government White Paper.
Oba Adewole thanked Governor Akeredolu for recognising the stool of Osolo of Isolo.
“The people of Isolo thank our amiable governor for making our dream come true. We will not forget him and this great gift. We will not forget the role of his government in ensuring peace all over the state.
“This is the beginning of new things in Isolo. We will continue to support the state government and contribute to its success. We are happy today. We thank everybody that ensured our happiness,” Oba Adewole said.
