The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, has said there is no going back on the nationwide strike and protest slated for Monday 28th September, 2020 to press for the reversal of increase in recent petrol price and electricity tariff.
The Chairman of the NLC in Ondo state, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole said in Akure that the national secretariat of the labour had directed that a purported court’s order would not stop the strike and protest on monday.
In a resolution signed by Adeleye and the state NLC Secretary, Comrade Omokehinde Shado and a copy obtained by SUNSHINETRUTH in Akure today, the Ondo NLC said, “RESOLUTIONS REACHED AT THE EMERGENCY SEC MEETING OF ONDO NLC HELD TODAY FRIDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER, 2020. The SEC in session looked into and discussed extensively the report on national instructions for Strike action and Protest in view of the increased fuel pump price and hike in electricity tariff.
“Considering our very peculiar situation, SEC in session resolved as follows; 1. That since the National Office of the Congress has not been served the court order restraining the action call, the Ondo state council of the Congress shall GO AHEAD with the protest as planned for Monday 28th September, 2020.
“2. That, ALL AFFILIATES shall organise and mobilise 20 members for the purpose of the Protest. 3. That, arrival time on Monday morning shall be 7.00am.
“4. That, members are enjoined to put on our May Day best and appear smart for the rally. 5. That, ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICES SHALL REMAIN SHUT until otherwise directed.
“6. That, our members in the NUP are EXEMPTED from the protest due to OLD AGE. 7. That, our members in the Medical and Health sector are equally EXEMPTED due to the nature of their duty.
“8. That, ALL CHAIRMEN are enjoined to give maximum support at ensuring a wholesome success of the planned action.”
Also speaking on media programme, the NLC Chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Funmi Sessi lamented the agony experienced by nigerians, saying the increase was unnecessary and had further impoverished the masses
The NLC chairmen stated that when other nations were busy providing basic amenities and cushioning effects of COVID-19 pandemic, nigeria’s government was busy making life unbearable for her citizens.
On his part, the Public relations officer, Trade Union Congress, TUC in lagos state, Comrade Kehinde Adegoke said all efforts to truncate the strike would be resisted.
