JUST IN: Seven Candidates Including two Females to Contest Akure North/South Bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has published the final list of candidates and political parties to contest the forthcoming bye-Election in Akure North/South federal constituency.


In the publication, seven Political parties: AA, ADP, APC, APP, NRM, PDP and SDP are participating in the election.


According to the publication, two women will be on the ballot paper. They are: Olawanle Oyewamide of AA and Oluwawemimo Fadeke Felicia of ADP.


The list shows that APC Candidate, Alade Mayokun Olanrewaju a 39 year-old is the youngest, Oluwawemimo Fadeke Felicia of ADP, a 64 year-old is the oldest, while Oluwamuyiwa Sylvester Adu of PDP holds the highest academic qualification, LLB.


The release of the candidates list was in line with INEC timetable.


INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye had said “Political Parties shall conduct their primaries, including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries, between Jan. 26 and Feb. 5,”

He added that the last day for submission of the list of nominated candidates is on February 9 at 6 p.m. and that must be done through the commission’s online nomination portal.
