The Ondo State Chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) led by the Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Olomiye has commiserated with the family and colleagues of its member, Deaconess Beatrice Oyinwande Abeni Modupe who passed on at the age of 78.
The Union said the late Senior Nurse would be missed greatly by her professional colleagues especially considering her very impactful life when she was in service and even in retirement.
In a condolence message, Comrade Olomiye noted that the family members and colleagues would be comforted by Deaconess Beatrice Abeni Modupe’s outstanding contributions to the ondo state health sector as one of the pioneering workers in the state.
Olomiye described her as a cheerful giver and philanthropist.
“She was one of the pioneers in many regards and served the Nursing profession in Ondo state in many eminent capacities. Her records of service to the state from when she joined till her retirement couldn’t be wished away.
Olomiye said, “NANNM on behalf of all Nurses and Midwives commiserates especially with her family members and assures them that her contributions would never be forgotten, as memory of late Deaconess Beatrice Abeni Modupe still occupies an enviable position in the minds of nurses and would remain a celebrated health professional in Ondo state many years to come.”
During a commendation service for her at Chapel of the Annunciation Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Akure, the Rector/Vicar, Akinwale Omoyajowo described late Deaconess Beatrice Abeni Modupe as a devoted christian who would be missed by the church.
“O God of grace and glory, we remember beforeYou this day our sister Late Deaconess Beatrice Oyinwande Modupe we thank You for giving her to us, her family and friends to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage.
“In Your boundless compassion, console all who mourn.Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until by Your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.”
ABURO, as fondly called by her husband, Omolorun Modupe, (her EGBON) began her early primary education at Swedenborg Memorial School, later known as New Church Primary School, Owo. She thereafter attended the Anglican Secondary Modem School Owo. Some of her classmates then included Mrs. Funmilayo Agbaminoja, Mrs. Adctobi Ologan. and Miss Helen Adcloye also her netball team player.
Because of her flair for nursing profession, she studied hard to gain admission to the Methodist Midwifery School Ikole, now in Ekiti State of Nigeria. Some of her friends and classmates then headed for St. Mary’s Teacher Training College Owo.
At Ikole, she trained as a Grade II Midwife. After working for about six months at the Methodist Maternity Center at Omuo Ekiti, she was offered admission to train as a Grade 1 Midwife at the Maria Asumpta Catholic Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
At the completion of her course there, the Management of the C atholic mission hospital decided to retain her out of a group of 15 students. She was offered employment as a staff midwife because of her exemplary professional competence. It is noteworthy that she did not solicit for the job while others did.
