Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, has assured residents that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) will intensify advocacy for tree planting to mitigate the effects of rainstorms across communities in the state.
Dr. Adelami made this commitment during a sympathy visit to the Olu of Ilu Abo, Oba Olu Falae, following the recent rainstorm that caused significant damage to properties in Owode, Eleyowo, and Ilu Abo communities in Akure North Local Government Area.
Accompanied by officials from SEMA and the Red Cross, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the destruction firsthand.
At the palace of the Olu of Ilu Abo, Oba Olu Falae expressed gratitude to the state government for its prompt response to residents’ distress calls, noting that, thankfully, no lives were lost in the disaster.
However, he appealed for government intervention to provide relief to victims and called for a permanent solution to the rising cases of kidnapping in the community.
The monarch lamented that the fear of kidnappers had driven many farmers away from their farmlands, urging the government to intensify efforts to curb the menace.
In response, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami reassured the monarch and residents of the government’s commitment to supporting victims and mitigating future disasters.
He emphasized the importance of tree planting, encouraging residents to embrace the practice as a preventive measure against the devastating effects of rainstorms.
Dr. Adelami also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing security across all 18 local government areas of the state.
He assured that security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, would continue to receive necessary support in the fight against criminal activities.
According to him, the Ondo State government remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property, pledging sustained efforts to address security challenges once and for all.
