The mild skirmish that broke out in Akure, the Ondo State capital yesterday at the popular Oja Oba did not claim any life.
It was reported yesterday that one person who is a follower of masquerade was reportedly stabbed by an Igbo trader and feared dead.
SUNSHINETRUTH had carried a breaking news that the incident led to a clash between some Igbo traders and Akure youths in the heart of the city, as they engaged in gun duel.
It was learnt that it took the efforts of security agents deployed to the area to quel down the fracas and enforce peace and sanity.
A security agent, who was there to maintain peace said that the fracas erupted when one of the followers of an unidentified Akure masquerade was allegedly stabbed by a trader.
According to him, the Akure youth mobilised themselves against the Igbos in the market area leading to mayhem.
It was later learnt that the only victim didn’t die but it was later revived at an undisclosed hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Press secretary to the Deji of Akure, Chief Michael Adeyeye said the situation was already under control, saying no life was lost in the incident.
Adeyeye who spoke on behalf of the monarch said: “I am not aware that any life was lost. An Igbo man stabbed an Akure man, while the Akure people re-enforced themselves at Odopetu community.
“The man was injured and has been taken to a nearby clinic. The security men have handled the situation to restore peace.
“At this period, the Kabiyesi has finished every celebration. These fallout celebrations could be done without causing rancour or unrest in the town,” Adeyeye said.
