There was palpable tension in Akure, the Ondo State capital as suspected thugs from Deji’s palace disrupted on going building project on Arakale road in the city.
The thugs were said to have come with the aim of demolishing the building on the alleged instruction of the Deji, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo.
Though Youths in the area resisted them, the palace boys were said to have armed themselves with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically.
The crisis left in its wake, two injured persons, damaged vehicles while some youths are said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital due to wounds sustained from stray bullets.
The incident paralyzed commercial activities in the Arakale business hub area of the state capital as there was heavy traffic hold up.
It took the intervention of the state taskforce to restore normalcy.
The owner of the building, Gbenga Bamidele alleged that the Deji, oba Aladetoyinbo had sold his father”s houses to a commercial bank for one hundred million naira but still insisted to take his own that he bought from another family.
He said problem ensued when the bank realized that the remaining land does not belong to the Deji as earlier claimed by the Monarch.
Mr Bamidele who claim to have all his building papers including Certificate of Ownership C of O said the action of Deji was tantamount to oppression.
While thanking the youths in the area for rising in his defence Bamidele enjoined the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN to call the Deji to order saying land grabbing being ochestrated by the palace is now order of the day.
Efforts to speak with the Chief Press Secretary of the Deji, Mr Michael Adeyeye proved abortive as his phone was switched off.
