Jun 20, 2022

The National Industrial Court sitting in Akure, today affirmed the legal authority of Ondo State Government to set up a committee to administer the public Motor Parks in the state and restrict Union activities of NURTW in the parks.

It will be recalled that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN recently after a protracted leadership crisis of Ondo state NURTW set up a park management Committee for the state and appointed Mr. Jacob Adebo (Idajo) as the Chairman.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the Governor, NURTW and some it’s member approached the National Industrial Court to declare the action of the Governor as illegal, null and void.

Delivering Judgment in suit No AK/14/2022 between National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) Mr Toyin Olaoye and Another VS. Governor of Ondo State & Mr Jacob Adebo (AKA Idajo), the Court held that the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN can legally and validly set up Park Management Committee to manage Public Parks in the state and suspend the activities of NURTW in the park especially where the crisis of the Union affects the smooth operation of the park.

The Court further held that there is no law that empowers NURTW to take over, administer public park and Unionize all drivers. The trial Court thereafter dismissed the suit filed by NURTW.
