***Calls on Ondo Govt, Law Enforcement Agencies, Judiciary to Enforce Law
Ondo State House of Assembly has called for decisive action to tackle the growing challenge of persistent violation of the law prohibiting forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties, as well as violent and fraudulent activities related to land matters in the state.
The Lawmakers during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji raised alarms over the increasing cases of miscreants violating the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, questioning the effectiveness of the legislation passed to protect property owners.
The House has therefore set up a 8-Man committee to look into the effectiveness of the law against such act as passed by the state in December last year and was assented to by the governor.
On 24th December 2024, the Ondo State House of Assembly passed into law a Bill to curb the activities of illegal Land grabbers in the State and was assented to by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
And concern over persistent violation of the law took centre stage during the plenary.
While expressing displeasure over ineffectiveness of the law, the Lawmakers noted that the situation has become worrisome, with reports of land disputes escalating into physical confrontations, thereby threatening peace and security in various communities across the state.
Also, the Sponsor of the Anti Land Grabbing Bill, Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju lamented that despite the passage of the bill, enforcement has remained weak, allowing miscreants to operate with impunity and called for immediate action by relevant authorities to ensure strict implementation.
Other lawmakers who contributed to the debate emphasized the need for the Ondo State Government, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to collaborate in enforcing the provisions of the law.
Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji assured that the Assembly would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure the law is effectively implemented.
He therefore constitute a 8-Man Committee headed by the Lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency II, Ololade Gbegudu to ensure efficient and effective implementation of the Bill and also ensure that decisive actions are taken against land grabbers and their sponsors.
Meanwhile, the hallowed Chamber has dissolved all Standing Committees of the House.
