The Iralepo of Isinkan in Akure West LCDA, Oba Oluwagbemiga Ajimokunola Olofin-Adimula (Arulewolasi III) has commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for clearing the backlog of international passports within shortest time.
The Isinkan Monarch gave the commendation when the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Ondo State Command, Kayode Afolabi and the Passport Control Officer, Kehinde Oladapo Bayode paid him a courtesy call at his palace at Ita-Owa in Isinkan.
He said the feat achieved shows that Nigeria can work with unity of purpose and right direction.
Oba Olofin-Adimula gave kudos to the minister of interior, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo for providing the impetus.
He noted that over 6000,000 backlog of passports had been cleared across the country out of which 8153 were cleared in Ondo State.
He said Nigerians had gone through hell in an attempt to get International passports in various NIS offices, acknowledging that “the story is different now.”
“One of my friends was at the immigration office recently, within a twinkle of an eye, he got his passport unlike before.”
“I must say that Nigerians are feeling positive impacts of the service. This is largely due to the commitment of the leadership and other members of staff. You have all given us hope of a better Nigeria.” The Iralepo said
He said Isinkan community would collaborate with the Nigeria Immigration Service to weed out illegal migrants and discourage human trafficking in his domain.
“We are doing everything to discourage our people from travelling abroad without mission. What the youths are going through in the name of travelling abroad via the Mediterranean Sea is better imagined.”
The Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Ondo State Command, Kayode Afolabi and the Passport Control Officer, Kehinde Oladapo Bayode said the purpose of the visit was to enlist the traditional ruler for fight against human trafficking and illegal migrants.
They said strategies have been put in place to ensure that deserving people of the state get international passports without delay.
