• As residents hail Gov Akeredolu
The nine kilometres Ikaramu-Akunnu Akoko road project in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State have been completed.
Equally, the 4.66 kilometres Ikare-Akoko township dualisation project is 85 percent completed.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr Raimi Aminu, who led other officials of the Ministry on unscheduled inspection of the road projects on Thursday, expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work done.
The two separate projects were initiated by the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN.
Speaking after the inspection, Engr. Aminu explained that the 9-kilometre Ikaramu-Akunnu Akoko road links the Northern Senatorial District of the state to the Northern part of the country, adding that the projects would soon be commissioned by Governor Akeredolu.
He disclosed that all the road projects being executed by the present administration are constructed to standard and specifications, and would last long.
“The quality of the project is impressive. We tested every stage of the job and all of them passed the tests that were carried out, both on the earth materials, the concrete, the bitumen, the asphalt used and others”, he said
The commissioner advised the people in the affected communities to take ownership of the projects and ensure proper use of the roads to serve its purpose.
He also charged the residents to avoid dumping of waste in the drainage system to avoid blockage and flood.
Engr. Aminu added that the projects are in fulfilment of Governor Akeredolu’s promises to the people to further make lives more meaningful to them.
The commissioner appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for being a visionary leader and for keeping his promises to the people of the state.
He revealed that government is aware of heavy vehicular movements on the completed 9km Ikaramu-Akunnu road, hence it has been designed to confront that challenge.
“Some many things have been buried under the road we are now. In some sections we have filter beds, in some sections have stabilisation before we got to the base course which is crushed stone base and we have the binder course before the wearing course.
“We are happy to inform everybody that the road is 99.5 percent completed. Why I didn’t say 100 percent completed is because they just started the road marking”, he said.
In separate responses, some residents of the community including Aderingboye Adedayo, Segun Akinola,and Olukoju Olumide thanked the governor for fulfilling the promise made to them.
According to them, when the governor visited the community prior to the 2020 governorship election in the state and promised to construct the road, they did not believe the Governor.
The people who could not hide their joy said the road was a nightmare for the road users, giving kidnappers opportunity to kidnap their victims before the governor’s intervention.
The residents described Akeredolu as a tested and credible leader who keeps his words, adding that the road project would greatly improve social and economic activities in the community and its environs.
On 4.66kilometre Ikare Akoko township dual-carriage road, the commissioner assured that the project will be completed and ready for commission in a couple of weeks.
He noted that the project ought to have been completed earlier than this, if not
for some challenges encountered during the construction.
“In some sections you see underground water spiling out when you open. In some areas too which was plain without any crack when we were doing the design, We now discovered that mm most of the materials underneath are unsuitable.
“Some areas we escavated more than 1.5metre before we can get suitable soil. So, those things hindered the progress of work. But we thank God the contractor is equal to the task. All of us working together, we were able to tackle the challenges”, he stressed
