Governor Akeredolu Condemns Assault on Ondo Commissioner

A group of women in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has held a peaceful protest to condemn sunday’s attack on the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr (Mrs) Olubunmi Osadahun.

The group under the aegis of Womanifesto, a women’s rights movement comprising over 600 activists, practitioners, professionals and NGOs, in a peaceful rally, converged at the Governor‘s office, Alagbaka, Akure to demand the arrest and prosecution of the aggresor, Mr Olumide Awolumate for the violence unleashed against Mrs Osadahun,

The group described the act as condemnable and a big assault on womanhood.

State coordinator of Womanisfesto and leader of the team, Mrs Olabisi Omolona said the group is grieved by the absurdity of such an act.

In a similar vein, the Ondo State wing of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), appreciated the step already taken with the suspension of the stalwart from the APC but demanded his arrest and prosecution.

The Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs Catherine Ogunjebi said the attack is a disrespect to women folks as well as the state government.

Responding on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, Chief Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju implored the women to sheath the sword as the matter is now in court.

Mrs Ademola-Olateju said the State Cabinet received the news with shock adding that the law enforcement agency is already investigating the matter with a view to bringing the culprit to book even as the court has been approached.

She said Governor Akeredolu frowns at all act of lawlessness, not to mention that of violence against women, promising that justice will be meted out appropriately.
