Former President Muhammadu Buhari has advised members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to adopt a citizen-centric approach to governance, emphasizing that leadership is both a challenge and an opportunity. He stated that successfully balancing both elements would significantly contribute to national progress.
Expressing confidence in the strides made by APC governors, Buhari reiterated the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the people over personal gains. He cited his own example of leaving office with the same physical assets he had prior to his presidency as a testament to his commitment to selfless leadership.
The former president expressed gratitude to the Tinubu administration for renovating his Kaduna home, noting that while the exterior remains unchanged, substantial improvements have been made within.
He also thanked the visiting governors for their Eid-el-Fitr greetings, acknowledging that while he worked with several of them during his tenure, others were new to him.
Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, led the delegation, praising Buhari for his foundational role in the APC and his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution. He described Buhari as a pan-Nigerian statesman whose legacy remains unmatched, being the only opposition candidate in the nation’s history to defeat an incumbent president.
Governor Uzodinma highlighted Buhari’s administration’s achievements in security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption, citing initiatives like the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and nationwide infrastructure projects as lasting legacies.
He affirmed that the APC is being renewed and repositioned under President Bola Tinubu, whose reform-driven leadership builds upon Buhari’s legacy. Uzodinma thanked Buhari for his recent public endorsement of Tinubu, calling it a powerful gesture of unity and continuity.
The delegation urged Buhari to continue offering guidance and support to the APC as it strives to entrench progressive politics and sustain governance at the national level.
