AAUA VC Commends Aiyedatiwa Over 60% Subvention Increase, Union Agreement Implementation
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has commended the Ondo State Governor and Visitor to the university, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for approving a 60 per cent increase in subventions to state-owned tertiary institutions and the immediate implementation of agreements reached between the Federal Government and staff unions.
The interventions were announced on Monday in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Reacting to the development, Obamuyi described the approvals as timely and welcome, saying they would help restore normal academic activities on the campus, preserve the academic calendar and strengthen the institution’s operations.
The Vice Chancellor said the latest intervention was particularly significant coming barely two weeks after the governor approved a N1.1 billion bailout for the university.
He said, “The announcement is heartwarming. And coming two weeks after the governor approved N1.1 billion bailout for our university, it shows that the governor has listening ears and is concerned about the welfare of members of the university community and the education of the students.
“With these interventions, we can all heave a sigh of relief, as they will put an end to the ongoing strike action of the academic staff and nip in the bud the proposed industrial action by the other unions.”
Obamuyi noted that the increase in subvention, which covers all state-owned tertiary institutions in Ondo State, demonstrated the governor’s commitment to the development of education in the state.
He assured the governor that the university would ensure that the additional funds were judiciously utilised to improve the institution’s operations and academic activities.
The Vice Chancellor further said the interventions would boost staff morale and translate into improved academic and administrative output across the university.
He expressed optimism that the measures would create a more stable environment for teaching, learning and research at the institution.
