The Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.
The approval, which takes immediate effect this month, is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen the institutions, improve workers’ welfare and enhance the quality of tertiary education in the state.
Under the new arrangement, the affected institutions are expected to use the increased funding to meet their financial obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and improve the learning environment for students and staff.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university-based unions across relevant state-owned tertiary institutions.
The move is expected to address longstanding welfare concerns among workers, boost staff morale and bring the institutions in line with national standards.
Speaking on the development, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the management of the institutions to ensure judicious and transparent utilisation of the increased subvention, with priority given to staff welfare and academic excellence.
He also urged the unions to reciprocate the gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and ensuring uninterrupted delivery of quality education to students.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning Ondo State as a hub for quality tertiary education, stressing that the government would continue to take practical steps to strengthen the state’s higher institutions and improve the welfare of their workforce.
