***Delegation Pledges Bloc Votes, Recalls Akeredolu’s Legacy and Urges Inclusive Representation for all Constituents
The Yoruba Campaign Council, an arm of the Yoruba Community in Igboland, has endorsed the aspiration of former Ondo State First Lady, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, to represent Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The endorsement came during a solidarity visit by members of the council to the Labour Party chieftain in Owerri on June 20, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, leaders of the delegation described Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu as “their wife” and pledged to mobilise support within the Yoruba community to ensure her victory in the 2027 election.
The group expressed confidence in her capacity to provide quality representation, citing her track record in public service and her commitment to the welfare of the people.
Members of the delegation also paid glowing tributes to her late husband, former Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), fondly known as Aketi.
They recalled his leadership qualities, courage, compassion and dedication to the well-being of citizens.
The visitors particularly commended the late governor’s role in establishing the Amotekun Security Network, describing the initiative as a bold step that helped strengthen security and protect communities from criminal activities in the South-West.
According to them, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu possesses the values of integrity, service and dedication associated with her late husband and would bring the same commitment to legislative representation.
The delegation further assured her of their support and promised to deliver bloc votes for her candidacy in the 2027 polls.
They, however, urged the House of Representatives hopeful not to neglect members of the Yoruba community resident in Owerri and other parts of the constituency if elected, stressing the need for inclusive governance and equitable distribution of democratic dividends.
Responding, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu assured the delegation that her representation would be people-centred, inclusive and development-driven.
She pledged to carry every segment of the constituency along and ensure that all residents, irrespective of ethnic background, benefit from effective representation.
The event featured cultural displays, songs and dancing, as the Labour Party candidate unveiled her campaign slogan, “Ada Owere for Me, for You, and for All.”
Participants repeatedly echoed the slogan, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu said the endorsement was deeply emotional, noting that despite pursuing her political ambition in her home state of Imo, she remained proud to be regarded by the Yoruba people as one of their own.
