***Advocates Greater Female Participation in Politics and Governance
Aspirant for the Imo East Senatorial District seat, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has reaffirmed her commitment to legislative accountability, civic engagement, and women’s participation in governance following a visit to the ERGAF-AFRICA Hub in Abuja.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu, popularly known as Ada Owere 1, visited the organisation on Sunday shortly after submitting her nomination and expression of interest forms at the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja ahead of the party’s senatorial screening scheduled for May 22.
ERGAF-AFRICA, a non-profit organisation focused on data-driven civic leadership, policy research, and citizen engagement, is known for its Deliberative Barometer initiative, supported by the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), which monitors the performance and legislative activities of all 469 members of the National Assembly.
Speaking after the visit, the former First Lady of Ondo State described the organisation’s work as “eye-opening” and commended its efforts at strengthening democratic governance and legislative accountability in Nigeria.
She noted that she had the opportunity to review the performance records of lawmakers representing Owerri Federal Constituency and the wider Owerri Zone, describing the experience as insightful and valuable.
According to her, access to such legislative performance data is critical to deepening transparency and helping citizens make informed political decisions.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu also expressed excitement over a “Children Parliamentary Session” display at the organisation’s hub, which she said could provide inspiration and leadership exposure for participants of the BEMORE Summer Bootcamp.
The BEMORE Summer Bootcamp is a two-week intensive programme for girls between the ages of 12 and 18, designed to equip them with ICT, solar technology, and life-enhancing skills for the digital economy.
She explained that beyond technical training, the initiative promotes self-confidence, leadership, and a culture of responsibility among young girls.
The senatorial aspirant stressed that exposing participants to parliamentary processes could encourage more young women to consider careers in politics and public service.
“Representation matters,” she stated, adding that increased female participation in governance remains essential to national development.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu said she left the ERGAF-AFRICA Hub inspired and energised, maintaining that the visit further strengthened her resolve as she continues consultations and preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
