***Stakeholders Express Support as Consulations Deepen Ahead of 2027 Senatorial Race
As part of her ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, aspirant for the Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) seat under the Labour Party has met with party members and executives from Owerri Municipal Local Government Area.
The engagement, held at her residence, followed an earlier meeting with Labour Party stakeholders from Owerri West earlier in the day.
The meeting reportedly attracted a large turnout of party faithful who expressed solidarity and support for her ambition.
Describing the atmosphere as lively, attendees were said to have engaged in songs and chants in support of her aspiration, while reaffirming party unity ahead of the forthcoming political season.
Addressing the gathering, Anyanwu-Akeredolu reiterated that her senatorial ambition was driven by a desire for service rather than personal gain.
“I am not seeking election for a meal ticket or personal enrichment. I am offering myself for service — service dedicated to the development, progress, and welfare of Owerri Zone and its people,” she said.
She outlined what she described as the pillars of her leadership philosophy: experience, credibility, competence, and compassion.
According to her, nearly three decades in the federal civil service have equipped her with the understanding required to navigate governance effectively.
She also emphasized the need for compassionate leadership, citing past interventions and support initiatives she undertook for communities during her time as First Lady in Ondo State.
Comparing levels of development across regions, she argued that while some communities in Ondo State enjoy relatively advanced infrastructure, several parts of Owerri Zone still lack basic amenities such as good roads, functional healthcare centres, and adequate school facilities.
She added that her decision to seek a Senate seat in Imo State was informed by a desire to address such developmental gaps.
“My marriage does not erase my identity or responsibility to my roots. Owerri Zone deserves quality representation that will attract meaningful development,” she stated.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu also highlighted community-based interventions she has supported in her hometown of Emeabiam, including the establishment of a police post and assistance to local vigilante groups to strengthen security.
She further unveiled her campaign slogan, “Ada Owere for me, for you, and for all,” which was warmly received by party members at the meeting.
The Labour Party Chairman of Owerri Municipal, Hon. Sabinus Ihekire, commended her commitment to community development, stating that individuals who contribute to their ancestral communities deserve encouragement.
Also speaking, a party leader in the area, Chief Mike Anukam Obeke, pledged support for her ambition and called for intensified grassroots mobilisation across Owerri Zone.
He urged party members to engage in door-to-door campaigns ahead of the elections.
The aspirant expressed optimism that her consultations were gaining traction, noting that the feedback from party members indicated growing support for what she described as “purposeful and compassionate representation.”
