A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jolaoso Ayodele Ajanaku, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration, which took place in Irun Akoko, Ondo State, drew a large gathering of party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, youth groups, and traditional stakeholders, underscoring growing political activities in the Akoko axis ahead of the polls.
The town witnessed a festive atmosphere, with music and cheers from supporters as Ajanaku unveiled his ambition, signalling what observers describe as an early but strategic move in the race for the federal legislative seat.
Ajanaku, a technocrat with experience spanning education, oil and gas, and public service, is widely regarded by his supporters as part of a new generation of political actors seeking to bridge professional expertise with responsive governance. With strong ancestral ties to Akoko land, his entry into the race is seen as a blend of grassroots connection and policy-driven aspiration.
Addressing supporters at the event, Ajanaku pledged to prioritise effective representation, people-oriented legislation, and inclusive governance if elected. He said his decision to join the race was informed by a desire to facilitate meaningful development across communities within the constituency.
“I am stepping forward with a clear vision to serve, to listen, and to deliver results that will improve the lives of our people,” he said, while emphasising the need for unity within the party and collective commitment to progress.
In his remarks, an APC leader in Irun Akoko, Ajulo Abdulahi, called on the Ondo State Governor to throw his weight behind Ajanaku’s candidacy, describing him as a credible, competent, and forward-thinking aspirant capable of effectively representing the constituency at the National Assembly.
Stakeholders at the event, including community leaders and party faithful, expressed confidence in Ajanaku’s capacity to provide quality representation, citing his professional background and understanding of local challenges as key strengths.
