As the world celebrates the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, founded by Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has reiterated its commitment to empowering girls as leaders and changemakers, aligning with this year’s global theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”
In a statement by Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the foundation joined the international community in recognizing the rights of girls and amplifying their voices as key agents of transformation, particularly in confronting modern-day challenges such as climate change, health inequities, and gender-based violence.
She noted that Nigerian girls are demonstrating resilience and leadership in their communities, reflecting the spirit of this year’s theme. Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu emphasized that BEMORE’s mission is to equip girls not just with knowledge, but with the skills and confidence to lead change.
Since its establishment, the foundation has trained thousands of young Nigerian girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), renewable energy (solar technology), and life-enhancing skills, preparing them for leadership roles in a rapidly changing world.
Highlighting a recent example of such leadership, Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu commended a group of BEMORE girls who organized a breast cancer awareness outreach at Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State, on October 10, 2025.
The students educated their peers on early detection, dispelled myths surrounding breast cancer, and promoted healthier lifestyles—an initiative she described as a testament to the power of girl-led advocacy.
“As the world marks 30 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, BEMORE reaffirms its commitment to creating safe spaces, amplifying girls’ voices, and investing in their leadership,” she said.
Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu further called on governments, development partners, the private sector, and civil society to increase investment in girl-child development, noting that empowering girls contributes to building a more equitable and sustainable world.
“Girls aren’t waiting for a better world; they are building it. BEMORE stands proudly with them,” she declared.
