The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Professor Olugbenga Ige, has lauded nine members of staff who earned global recognition by being listed among the top two per cent of academic researchers in the world.

The scholars were named in the 2024 Elsevier–Stanford Global Ranking of Top Scientists, reaffirming AAUA’s place on the international academic and research map.

Professor Ige described the achievement as a testament to the University’s commitment to quality research and global relevance. He noted that the recognition, based on rigorous metrics including research impact, citation indices, and scholarly contributions, would inspire both staff and students to greater excellence.

Among the honourees is Professor Sunday Olatunji, Dean of Computing, commended for his pioneering use of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to solve real-life challenges. With 129 publications indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science, he was earlier named Nigeria’s best AI researcher for 2025 by the National Universities Commission. His scholarly record includes over 157 publications on Google Scholar, 3,992 citations, an h-index of 34, and an i10-index of 93.

Others recognised include Professors Nurudeen Oladoja and Adeleke Ashogbon, alongside Drs Taiwo Agbede, Taoreed Owolabi, Abayomi Oke, Andrew Falowo, Oluwatobi Oyeneyin, and Damilola Omoboyowa, whose research works are widely indexed and cited globally.

The Stanford–Elsevier ranking, covering over 8.5 million active scientists across 22 fields and 176 subfields, identified 233 Nigerian scholars among the world’s leading 190,000 researchers.

Professor Ige stressed that the honour underscores AAUA’s growing influence in cutting-edge research and innovation, while reinforcing its status as one of Nigeria’s pace-setting universities.
