BREAKING: PDP ‘ll Boycott Local Government Election in Ondo State – Source

Jan 9, 2025

Barring any change, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP will boycott the coming local government election in Ondo State.

Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had announced 18th January, 2025 as a date for the council election in the state.

The electoral umpire also announced that thirteen political parties including PDP had indicated interest to participate in the election.

However, feelers from the Secretariat of the major opposition party in Ondo State showed that the party may have rescinded its decision to participate in the election.

An impeccable source within the party said “the defeat during the last governorship election is shocking. Before the election, public opinion didn’t favour APC, yet it won in all the 18 local governments in the state.”

“We knew what transpired. So, we do not have trust in Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and ODIEC to conduct free, fair and credible election. The local government election doesn’t worth our energy”

“If a national election could be manipulated, you can imagine what will happen to an election under the nose of Aiyedatiwa. We have challenged the shenanigans though.”

“The party had met on whether or not to participate in the election for more than three times. We have consistently been divided with the voice against our participation the loudest.”

“Party leaders are however still looking at what could be the psychological and political implications of any decision to be taken, but I can confidently tell you that PDP will withdraw from the election.” The source said.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State independent electoral Commission ODIEC had a one-day training for its ad hoc staff on Thursday at the Aquinas College in Akure in readiness for the local government election.
