The new Yam Festival in Isinkan in Akure south local government area of Ondo State is an important way of marking the beginning and end of the farming season.
It is a celebration of life, accomplishments in the community, culture and well-being.
Celebrating 2022 new yam festival, early in the morning, young girls and women in the community dressed with traditional attire “Aso oke” with yams harvested from the farm on their heads and moved round the community seeking fruitful year, bountiful harvest and fertility.
They were accompanied by masquerades and singing young women who dressed in similar attires to the palace of Iralepo.
Dignitaries of other communities paid respect to Oba Olofin-Adimula during the festival to show solidarity and support of the people.

Then everyone partook in the merriment that accompanied the New Yam Festival after which the people are now traditionally permitted to begin the consumption of new yam.
The Iralepo of Isinkan, Oba Oluwagbemiga Ajimokunola Olofin-Adimula opened the ceremony with prayers of thanksgiving for the favour of nature and the importance of yam to the community and its farmers.
He said the community is eager for rapid development and asked Indigenes of the community both home and in the diaspora to influence it.
Iralepo assured his continuous support for the state government to maintain peace in the state capital.
