The Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig. Gen. Mukhtar Adamu has charged the members of the Alumni Association of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure to continue in the spirit of sustaining and maintaining the standards of their Alma mater.
Adamu said this, when the National President of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Dr. Niyi Ijogun FNIQS paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Akure.
The Brigade Commander said the school has produced finest Military Generals in the Army. According to him, the likes of Col. Kunle Falayi (retd), Maj. Gen. Etomi, (retd), Col. M.A. Ogunlade (retd), Maj. Gen. Adeosun (retd), Brig. Gen. Olowomeye (retd), among others, were products of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure and these Generals have served the country in their best abilities.
He said there is need to give back to the school that has taught them a lot in life, because what they are today is a product of what they passed through in the school. Adamu explained the fact that the government cannot do it alone, but with the help of the Old Students, academics and other extra-curricular activities can be improved.
He also expressed his appreciation to the National President for the visit to his office and assured him of Military’s support and partnership.
The National President, Dr. Niyi Ijogun applauded the Nigerian Army for their services to Nigerians at ensuring the safety of our territorial borderlands, and in particular, in the areas of Corporate Social Responsibilities, CSR.
Ijogun said the the Old Students who have passed through the Army will be happy to see that the Nigerian Army is also supporting the cause of their Alma mater.
According to Ijogun, “Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, which was founded in 1953, precisely on the 29th day of January, has grown tremendously in population, infrastructure, and has produced many professionals that are doing the nation’s proud in their chosen careers.”
Ijogun said the present National Executive Council has done a lot improving the academics standards and other activities through the supports of the Alumni Association members. According to him, this has indeed help the school to regained its lost glory, and as the school celebrates its 70th Anniversary, projects worth over N100million will be dedicated.
He said being the “Only School”, the National Executive Council has also been able to strengthen the Alumni with the inauguration of more branches across the State in Nigeria and diaspora.
