The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has disclosed why some results of candidates who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2020 were not released.
WAEC Head of the Nigeria National Office, Patrick Areghan announced the release of 2020 WASSCE results at a press briefing on Monday.
Areghan disclosed that some results of candidates who sat for the exams were withheld due to examination malpractice.
According to him, “The results of Two Hundred and Fifteen Thousand One Hundred and Forty-Nine (215,149) candidates, representing 13.98% of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course.
“The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools.”
He added that other results not released on the site were due to some errors on the part of the candidates and are still being processed to be released later.
“Out of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, One Million Four Hundred and Fifty-Six Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty-Seven (1,456,727) candidates, representing 94.69% have their results fully processed and released while Eighty-One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighteen (81,718) candidates, representing 5.31% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors on the part of the candidates.
“ Efforts are, however, being made to speedily complete the processing to enable all the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.”
NECO RESUMES SUSPENDED EXAMS
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the suspended 2020 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) will restart nationwide next Monday.
The examinations were temporarily suspended owing to the #EndSARS protests, which disrupted movement of materials nationwide.
Head of Information and Public Relations Division, NECO, Azeez Sani disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
The statement reads: “The National Examinations Council (NECO) wishes to inform candidates, schools and other stakeholders of the resumption of the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in all states and the FCT from Monday 9th November 2020.
“The Council was constrained to postpone the examinations indefinitely on Monday 25th October 2020 due to security challenges occasioned by the ENDSARS protests, which disrupted the smooth conduct of the examinations in some parts of the Country.
“Following the return of normalcy in the states and FCT, the examinations will now continue with a new Time-Table from Monday 9th November, 2020 to Saturday 28th November, 2020.
“This new Time-Table will be made available to the general public, schools and candidates from Wednesday 4th November, 2020. The Time-Table can also be seamlessly downloaded from the NECO official website: www.neco.gov.ng
“The Council thanks the general public and candidates for their patience and understanding during the period the SSCE was suspended. NECO assures the general public of quality service in the discharge of her statutory responsibilities at all times.”
