The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, yesterday called on Judges to see themselves as the representative of the Almighty God on earth.
Justice Muhammad stated this at the swearing in of eight new Justices of the Supreme Court.
The exercise which took place at the headquarters of the Supreme Court, in Abuja was sequel to the appointment made by President Muhammadu Buhari and confirmed by the Senate, on the recommendations of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The Chief Justice of Nigeria urged the newly sworn Justices to be morally upright and have respect for the constitution in the discharge of their duties.
The Justices are, Lawal Garba, (North West), Helen Ogunwumiju (South West), Abdu Aboki (North West), and Mohammed Saulawa (North West).
Others are, Adamu Jauro (North East), Samuel Oseji (South South), Tijani Abubakar (North East), and Emmanuel Agim (South South)
The eight newly sworn in justices brought the number of Justices in the Appex Court to twenty.
Governors of Kogi, Yobe, Borno, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Plateau and Ondo States were among the dignitaries that graced the ceremony.
Hon. Justice H. Ogunwumiju on her appointment and Swearing in as a Justice of Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Justice H. Ogunwumiju was of Ondo State High Court before her appointment to the Court of Appeal.
She was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Muhammadu Buhari and she is the only indigene of Ondo state on the Supreme Court bench currently.
