Apr 19, 2024

The Nigerian Union of Journalists in Ondo State has raised alarm over the influx of fake Journalists into the state ahead of APC Primary election in the state.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Union, Leke Adegbite and the Secretary Olaoluwa Meshack, the Union said “it has come to the notice of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council that some unaccredited and fake journalists have flooded the state ahead of direct mode of the APC governorship primaries slated for Saturday 20th April, 2024 and that of the PDP slated for 25th April, 2024.”

“To this effect, our Union wishes to alert Security operatives and political class to be wary and to clarify status of such quacks in the media industry with the leadership of Ondo NUJ (07042285702) or its Taskforce against Fake Journalists (08028297337).”

“We equally enjoin professional journalists who are coming from outside Ondo State to cover the party primaries to ensure that they are well-accredited and cleared by the NUJ to avoid unnecessary embarrassment on the field.”

“Our NUJ Taskforce is already on the field to work with security agents to prevent these fake journalists from carrying fake news that can set the State on fire.”

“Ondo NUJ appeals to all Governorship Aspirants from the major political parties to play the game according to the rules, and place the interest of the state above personal interest.”
