The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has confirmed that results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
This clarification comes amid viral reports falsely claiming that the entire examination had been cancelled due to alleged widespread malpractice and leakage of question papers.
In a statement, WAEC described the reports as “spurious” and the handiwork of “mischief-makers” determined to mislead the public and create panic among candidates.
“The Council would like to state unequivocally that the false press statement being circulated did not emanate from WAEC. The examination has not been cancelled,” the statement read.
WAEC assured stakeholders that the marking of scripts has been concluded and that preparations for the release of results are in top gear.
It urged candidates, parents, schools, and the general public to disregard fake news and rely only on official and verified WAEC platforms for authentic updates.
“All official statements from WAEC are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office,” the Council emphasized.
The statement was signed by Moyosola Adesina, anipr, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria.
