UPDATED: ARMED ROBBERY ATTACKS: FUTA Students Demand Security Protection or Guns

***As Protest Disrupts Vehicular Movement on Akure-Ilesa Express way

Hundreds of students of the federal university of  Technology Akure this morning barricaded the Akure – Ilesa expressway in protest of incessant armed robbery attacks.
The students prevented vehicular movement along the Axis while vowed to continue until the concerned authorities take action on the matter.
The Students of The University of Technology Akure who trooped out enmasse are protesting against the increase in Crime rates particularly Armed robbery at their residential areas outside the school premises – FUTA North gate.
The students union President, Olayeni Oluwasoromidayo alongside other students called on the school Authority and the government to provide adequate Security.
They demanded for security protection are they are given guns for self defence.
Chairman, Campus security committee, Prof kolawole Adegbie who spoke on behalf of the school authority called for calm and assured of prompt response.
Addressing the Gathering,  the Deputy commissioner of police operations, Mohammed Rabiu commiserated with the students and assured of police intervention.
He promised to have police patrol of the area from 6pm to 6am.
As at the time of filing this report normalcy has returned to the area.
