Unpaid salaries: We’ve lost five workers at AAUA —NASU

The Non ‘-Academic Staff Union Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA branch, has issued a 21 day ultimatum to the authorities of the institution to settle unpaid salaries of its members or face industrial action.
Also the Union said it has lost five of it members as a result of unpaid five months salaries.
Already Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has approved payment two months subventions for the state tertiary institutions including AAUA to settle part of outstanding workers’ salaries.
The position of NASU is contained in a copy of its resolution made available to SUNSHINETRUTH on Sunday November 29, 2010 in Akure.
Below is a full text of its resolutions at a meeting recently.
RESOLUTION OF THE NON-ACADEMIC STAFF UNION ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA AKOKO ONDO STATE.
Following the emergency meeting of the Non ‘-Academic Staff Union Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko branch held on 12th November, 2020 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall which borders on unpaid salaries and other welfare issues. The Union in its Congress discussed at length especially on the current conditions of its members in AAUA. After extensive deliberation it was unanimously resolved as follows.
a. That 21 days ultimatum should be issued to Management of AAUA effective from 12th November, 20
b. That Management should implement the new minimum wage for all members of staff, and should take effect from the track date of its implementation by the Ondo State government.
C. That all back logs of union check off dues, and cooperative deduction should be released.
D. That Earned Allowances should be paid to all members of non -teaching staff of AAUA, as embedded in the FGN/Trade Unions 2009 agreement.
That subvention of AAUA should be increased to 100 percent to enable the university run effectively
That tax relief should be granted to AAUA workers according to the 6th schedule of Tax law of Nigeria as amended by the National Assembly
That subvention to AAUA should be released as and when due to end delayed payment of salary.
That five (5) months unpaid salaries should be paid immediately to all AAUA members of staff to end their state of suffering. And failure of Management to comply with above resolution after 21days shall be tantamount to Industrial actions.
It is awful and despicable that five persons among AAUA NASU members have lost their lives as a results of unpaid salaries. To worsen the situation the State Government has reduced drastically monthly subventions to Adekunle Ajasin university, by 50% which has crippled the running of the institution and make payment of salaries unrealistic.
As leadership of NASU AAUA we have been pushed to the wall especially by the pathetic conditions of
members of staff in the University.
The most painful aspect of it, is that our members are unable to feed their families regularly due to unpaid salaries, as majority of the foods stuff sellers refused to sell to AAUA staff on credit.
We are left with no choice than to cry out hence, the State govt is showing insensitivity to the plight of AAUA staff.
As a Union in AAUA we can not continue to watch our people dying of hunger and lack of money to purchase foods and drugs when there is a government whose responsibility is to pay salaries of workers as at when due and provide for their needs.
In view of this, we therefore call on our amiable Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to please come to the aid of AAUA staff in the interest of peace and and development of educational sector in Ondo State.
