President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and multilateral missions across the world, including 34 non-career and 31 career diplomats, months after their confirmation by the Senate.
Among the prominent appointments is former senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who has been designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, a key diplomatic posting considered central to the country’s engagement with global institutions.
The list of postings was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the Senate had confirmed the ambassadors-designate in December 2025, paving the way for their official deployment.
Key Non-Career Postings
Aside from Jimoh Ibrahim’s appointment to the United Nations mission, several political figures and technocrats were assigned to strategic diplomatic missions.
Former presidential aide Ita Enang was posted to South Africa, while former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro will represent Nigeria in Australia.
Former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole was posted to Canada, and former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau will head Nigeria’s mission in China.
Other notable postings include former presidential aspirant Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, media commentator Reno Omokri to Mexico, and former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar.
Career Diplomats Assigned
The President also approved postings for 31 career diplomats to various countries across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Among them are Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya, Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium, and Ambassador Akande Wahab Adekola to Switzerland.
Agrément Process Underway
The Presidency disclosed that the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has also approved the posting of Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally notified the other host countries of Nigeria’s nominees and requested diplomatic approval in accordance with international protocol.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry to immediately commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment.
The new envoys are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement, promote economic cooperation and protect the country’s interests abroad.
