The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across the country to commence the search for the new moon of Zulhijja 1446 AH on Tuesday, 27th May 2025, corresponding to the 29th of Zulqi’dah 1446 AH.
This directive was contained in a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.
The statement urges members of the Muslim Ummah to report any sighting of the crescent to the nearest District or Village Head, who will then forward the information to the Sultan for necessary action.
The sighting of the new moon signifies the beginning of the sacred month of Zulhijja, during which Muslims around the world observe the annual Hajj pilgrimage and celebrate the Eid al-Adha festival.
